Individuals, businesses and cities in 188 countries and territories worldwide joined hands for the 12th time to celebrate Earth Hour 2019. Earth Hour is the biggest grassroot  event for the environment that focuses on the importance of biodiversity and particularly this year’s theme, ‘Nature Matters’, Wanted to inform people on the importance of nature to their everyday life. There was a call to action for individuals to speak up for nature and inspire urgent action for the environment.

A group of young energetic students, Daystar Compassionate & Care Center (DC3),  from Daystar University, who are passionate about nature turned up in solidarity for this year’s Earth Hour. They organised  a tree planting activity in conjunction with KIjani Environmental Association at Jamhuri High School.

“It is not only talk that will save our planet but action as well, even the smallest of action towards a sustainable environment” Said Elvina Majiwa the DC3 Chairlady.

Nonetheless, this was also a platform to educate youngsters on the importance of biodiversity and how they can play a part to protect mother nature from degradation. Also in attendance was the school principal among other teachers. ”This is just but the beginning, planting trees is not  the most important thing but what we do after, is what matters. We should always make sure that we dedicate our time to water these trees so that they don't die.” said the Principal while addressing the students

This goes the extra mile to inform us that we need to constantly take part in ensuring that the journey to restore our planet is not yet over.
