WWF Uganda Equips Teachers with Climate Resilience Skills

With schools currently on holiday, WWF Uganda kicked off training sessions for teachers from 35 schools surrounding the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. The sessions, part of the Green Schools project, focus on equipping teachers with child-centered approaches to climate resilience, enabling them to inspire learners to become active environmental stewards.

According to the WWF Country Director Ivan Tumuhimbise, the trained educators will return to their classrooms empowered to shape the future conservation champions in Uganda.

The WWF Uganda programing is now prioritizing young people to create a generation of future leaders and decision-makers who are environmentally conscious and motivated to continue conservation efforts.

“Young people bring different energy, creativity, and innovation to solving environmental challenges, knowing that t they will live in the world they help create. Nurturing and engaging them in decision-making ensures that policies and actions are aligned with their interests, and their enthusiasm and passion can inspire others, including adults, to act”, he said.

WWF also believes that young conservationists bring a sense of urgency and moral clarity to environmental issues, helping to galvanize broader community efforts.
The training has already been embraced by the teachers.

“This program has opened my eyes to practical ways of involving learners in environmental action,” noted Mutaryadodo Kule, one of the participating teachers.

The Green Schools initiative, supported by DANIDA through WWF Verdensnaturfonden / WWF Denmark, places young people at the heart of conservation. It aims to instill environmental responsibility and sustainability values in the next generation, ensuring a greener future for all.
