WWF Uganda Applauds MTN’s Bold Step Towards Sustainability

WWF Uganda joined MTN Uganda at the launch of its first sustainability report, which highlighted a remarkable 58.4% reduction in direct carbon emissions. This milestone follows MTN’s successful rollout of renewable energy solutions at more than 500 base station sites across the country, underscoring the company’s commitment to green innovation.

Speaking after the launch, WWF Uganda Country Director, Ivan Ndyareeba, commended MTN’s leadership in integrating sustainability into its business model and urged other companies to follow suit.

“At WWF, we recognize the pressure that business puts on the environment. We also understand that a healthy business depends on a healthy planet. Just like MTN, we want to urge all other businesses that are not yet on board to map a vision that sets a high sustainability standard across their entire operations—and well beyond—to guarantee the health of their business and that of the planet,” he said.

The partnership between the private sector and conservation organizations like WWF demonstrates that bold corporate action is key in tackling the climate crisis. By prioritizing renewable energy, MTN has set an example of how businesses can align profitability with environmental stewardship.

WWF Uganda remains committed to working with businesses, government, and civil society to accelerate the transition to a sustainable economy where people and nature thrive together.

Looking ahead, WWF Uganda in partnership with MTN will be launching the Pachi-Panda Innovation Challenge, an initiative aimed at attracting young people into developing innovations for a better world for both nature and people. This challenge will serve as a platform to inspire, support, and scale youth-led solutions that drive sustainability and environmental resilience.
