Solar Lights Build Confidence of S.4 Candidates

As students in S.4 country wide kick-off their Uganda Certificate of Education Examinations (UCE) this week, students and staff of Rutoto Secondary School in Rubirizi district are confident of excellent grades, thanks to the solar systems that were installed in their school over a year ago by WWF with funding from the EU.

The students say that they have utilized the solar lights to comprehensively prepare for the exams through personal revisions, group discussions and revisions with their teachers at night.
Rutoto Secondary School is one of the many other schools that benefited from the institutional solar systems installed in 51 institutions that included schools and health centres last year.
According to the head teacher, Jonan Kansiime, students were able to complete the syllabus in time and enjoyed extended reading hours.
“This will be the first time our students are sitting for UCE exams and we are very confident that they will emerge among the very best in the country,” said Jonan.
The Chairman Board of Directors at the school, Eric Kateeba noted that after the installation of the solar lighting system, the school administration and the parents agreed to remedial classes which are conducted at 6pm and 7-9pm.
The candidates are also happy with the preparations they have made.
“We have no excuse. We want to perform well and show the world that solar lights don’t only improve the health and economic wellbeing of our families but also an engine to better grades”, they hope.

The school’s administration is now planning to purchase a printer, computer and photocopier to enable them start printing their own exams instead of buying from distant places outside the school.

With security lights, the safety of the school, its property and pupils is also guaranteed.
We wish the candidates success and WWF will be on ground to measure the success of these students once the results are released early next year.
