WWF Commits to Quicker Turn Around Time for the Awojja Catchment Restoration works

The WWF Country Director Simon Peter Weredwong committed to efficient and timely Completion of the Awojja Catchment restoration work.

The Country Director made the remarks during a courtesy call to the Kyoga Water Management Zone team, part of the week-long engagements where he interacted with officials from Bukedea and Katakwi District Local Governments that are hosting the restoration sites.

Simon and Eng Twinomuhanji Maxmo, the team Leader at the Kyoga Water Management Zone under the Ministry of Water and Environment discussed in detail the status of the catchment restoration work and drew strategies to ensure efficient delivery that will benefit nature and people.

The Country Director also interacted with the communities that will be at the forefront of the restoration work and commended the fact that Women made up almost 60% of members in the different community groups.

“To engage in nature sustainability, we must empower women. As WWF, we are going to ensure that women are at the forefront of the Awojja Catchment restoration work”, he said.

Simon added that the beauty of nature is that even if we choose to do nothing and just put our destructive hands off, it will steadily regenerate.

The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) secured funding to implement Integrated Water Management and Development Projects (IWMDP) in different Water Management Zones (WMZs) of Uganda. Part of the financing under the current IWMDP was Awarded to WWF to support communities to implement priority catchment management measures in middle/lower Awoja sub catchment in Eastern Uganda.
