WWF Uganda Hosts the WWF Executive Director of Country Programs
WWF Uganda hosted Prasanna De Silva, Executive Director - Country Offices Management, and Yvonne Godo, Chief Operating Officer for WWF Africa.
Mr Okidi expressed appreciation for WWF Uganda’s continued collaboration with the Ministry, which has significantly advanced environmental conservation efforts. He added that the Government was investing in research to guide funders and partners in meaningful collaborations.
Prasanna De Silva on his part pledged the organization’s continued support and collaboration to ensure that nature thrives.
The WWF officials later met officials from the National Forestry Authority (NFA). The AG Executive Director of NFA, Maniraguha Stuart commended the management of WWF at the national and global level for not only committing funds to forest restoration but also investing in policy reforms that ensure improved management of the Forest resources.
Prasana also headed to the landscape where he witnessed how programs have embraced the Nature based Solutions (NbS) concept in all components. He was also amazed at the comprehensive approach of WWF work in Uganda that has seen the adoption of digital technologies in conservation approaches but more importantly deliberately ensuring that livelihoods of communities living adjacent to project areas improve.
Prasanna also visited Queen Elizabeth National Park where WWF in collaboration with the Uganda Wildlife Authority have embarked on a program to remove invasive species threatening the park’s biodiversity among others.
Prasanna also met with officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral development where they discussed opportunities of scaling up renewable energy technologies to address the Country’s cooking needs. Here, Prasanna committed to support the resource mobilization for this purpose.
