WWF Uganda launches FY2023 Annual Report

WWF Uganda launched the 2023/2024 annual report. In the event presided over by Prasanna De Silver, the Executive Director of Country Offices at WWF, the Uganda Country Office reported forest landscape restoration of over 2000 hectares.

Other gains in the financial year include the development of District Forest Development Plans aimed at improving forest resources management in the Albertine graben, improvement in the management of protected areas, Increased household incomes in the region and restoration of over 50kms of water catchments.

The Country Director of WWF in Uganda, Ivan Tumuhimbise explained that the success registered is attributed to the transformative partnerships with Government, private sector, local CSOs and indigenous people as well as local communities.

“This year, we restored critical habitats, engaged thousands of households in sustainable practices, and created numerous jobs. We have seen significant improvements in forest management, wildlife monitoring, and community engagement, all contributing to a healthier and more resilient environment,” he recounted.
On his part, Mr Prasanna De Silver applauded WWF in Uganda for ensuring that communities appreciate the true value of nature and pledged his support in scaling up the country program.

The launch event was also attended by Yvonne Gudo, the WWF Africa Chief Operating Officer, the Executive Director of the Uganda Wildlife Authority, representatives from line government agencies, the media, representatives from Foreign missions, CSOs among others.
