This week, WWF Uganda will unveil Earth Hour 2020 in the one million march against plastic and Kaveera (plastic bags) pollution.
According to WWF’s David Duli, Earth hour 2020 in Uganda is set to be more exciting and impactful.
“We are using this campaign to raise awareness on the dangers of plastic pollution to nature. Its estimated that 600 tonnes of plastic is disposed off in an irresponsible way. This finds its way into our eco systems pausing great threat to nature and biodiversity.”
According to the Manager of Communications, Policy and Advocacy at WWF in Uganda, Ms Kyategeka, the march will be used to communicate behaviour change actions that need to be adopted to reduce the amount of plastic waste that enters our environment.
“We want to use this campaign to rally Government to make commitments against nature loss to ensure that nature and people thrive”, she added.
The march will be flagged off by the Speaker of Parliament, Hon Rebecca Kadaga who will be joined by other Government Ministers and City officials.
A number of activities have been lined up throughout the campaign period and beyond including the Children’s Plastic recycling competitions, The plastic waste management model challenge by University students and the Earth Hour night celebrations.
Join the march, if you can’t make it to kampala, follow second by second updates on #EarthHourUg2020.
