Minister Commends WWF Approaches at World Tourism Day

WWF Uganda actively participated in the 2024 World Tourism Day celebrations under the theme "Tourism and Peace," emphasizing the critical role of conservation in fostering harmony and sustainable tourism.

Under the Green Schools project, Students captivated audiences through dance, quiz, drama, and poetry, all centered on the theme of peaceful coexistence through conservation.

During the event, the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, who represented the President as the guest of honor commended WWF Uganda and partners for their innovative approaches to conservation and community engagement.

"The initiatives showcased by WWF and her partners demonstrate the immense potential of conservation to drive sustainable tourism, enhance livelihoods, and promote harmony between communities and wildlife. Such efforts are crucial in safeguarding Uganda’s natural heritage for generations to come," he remarked.

The Katara Women’s Poverty Alleviation Group, one of WWF's partners, demonstrated how their apiary project has successfully reduced human-wildlife conflict by creating a natural barrier to keep elephants and other wildlife from crossing into community lands. Their elephant dung- paper products, crafted from processed elephant droppings, were also on display, showcasing how communities can benefit economically while conserving biodiversity.
